Welcome to
David Yetter's Outside the University Homepage
This site is perpetually under construction
Well, you've stumbled into my website. Actually I have three websites,
one for my
professional work,
one for all of the Orthodox Christian parishes and missions in Kansas outside the KC and Wichita metro areas, plus the K-State OCF,
and this one for
everything else, or four once you count my blog,
Ortho Opinions. Free blog-hosting being quite easy to use, my old plan to include rants
about one thing an another on this site has been called off: you can find my rants at
Ortho Opinions, instead. Anime reviews, however will stay at
Outside the Uni Anime
Links
Here are links to some of my favorite websites. All links open in a
new window.
Anime
-
Outside the Uni Anime My very own anime review page.
Exclusive reviews and links to my reviews in the Anime
Cafe Parents' Guide to Anime. Image galleries may be
forthcoming.
- Anime Cafe A good
site for anime reviews. Also has a lively bulletin-board style
forum for otaku to discuss anime and (sometimes only marginally)
related topics.
- Anime Web
Turnpike A great source of links to anything and everything about
anime on the web.
Cooking
-
Epicurious.com Website
run by Bon Appetit and incorporating the content from the now defunct
Gourmet Magazine. Just about
the only recipe site you'll ever need. Before the web, when I used to
take magazines, my family got Gourmet. The new editor
maimed it, taking it down from the glory days of the 1980's, and the market put
it out of its misery.
(Say whatever you want about "greed" and the politics of the day,
the 1980's, when everyone wanted to imitate the old rich--that's what
"yuppie-ism" was--was a high water-mark for haute cuisine,
classic-styled clothing, and production values in consumer goods.)
News and Politics
- The Briefing Room Up and coming successor as America's top conservative news discussion forum to my former long-time favorite, FreeRepublic.com, whose
owner has drunk the nativist kool-aid and started banning posters who recognize that the nomination of Donald Trump is not in the interests of either the GOP or the conservative movement and that his election would not be helpful to either liberty or America's national interest broadly construed.
- BBC News Does this need
any explanation?
- Economist.com Back when
I subscribed to lots of magazines, The Economist was the only
news magazine I took. Now thanks to a gift from my wife, I'm a subscriber again.
The very pragmatic European, but generally
pro-American, outlook it provides is a nice balance to the American
liberal media and American talk-radio, both of which tend to
be a bit narcissistic.
Religion
- Romanity.org Website of
the late Fr. John Romanides (Memory eternal! Memory eternal! Memory
eternal!). If you grew up in America, it's probably the case that
everything you know about Church history and the Middle Ages is false.
(Well, not quite, but most of the basic suppositions are.) Visit
this site to find out why.
- The Orthodox Christian Foundation
useful links to other Orthodox sites and edifying reading.
- Eighth Day Books
On Line The website of Wichita Kansas's jewel of a bookstore, with probably the
best selection in the US of Orthodox Christian books under one roof.
- The Antiochian Archdiocese
homepage for the Self-Ruled North American exarchate of the
Patriarchate of Antioch, the
Archdiocese which I serve as a subdeacon.
- The Orthodox Church in America homepage
of the (autocephalous) Orthodox Church of America.
- The Greek Archdiocese homepage
for the Greek Orthodox
Archdiocese, the North American exarchate of the Patriarch of Constantinople.
Includes links to the Orthodox World News.
- ROCOR homepage of the
Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Two on-line publications of this
fervently traditional Orthodox jurisdiction can be found at
Orthodox America and
The Orthodox Family (back-
issues only).
